Herbs-Basil

Monday, August 13th, 2007

Wow! I cut off the flowers that were beginning to bloom of one of the basil plants I have in a container and it has gone to town. It has grown even bigger and has started to bloom again. I will have to start chopping and freezing them as we cannot keep up with the proliferation of basil. This is good because it can help us last through winter and then we can get a new plant next summer! I have two herb containers on our patio. They have been doing quite well as they are in a part sun/part shade spot. I have mounted the containers on brackets so they are at a convenient height for picking and it has been a great addition to our patio garden.

Shade Containers

Sunday, August 5th, 2007

Our balcony faces North so we have a great deal of shade on our deck. One corner has shade containers while the other is filled with those that do well in the sun. So-far I have a Hosta in one container. It is small right now as I bought it this year but it has a beautiful green leaf with a light yellow/green trim. I was told to cut off the flowers when it bloomed as this would help it develop. So the pictures are the memory of the short lasting flower that bloomed this late July 2007.
