Just to update what we have in the shade containers. The hosta is coming back which is quite exciting… it survived winter! We also have an astilbe (often searched for as misspelled astibule) and although the hosta is suppose to get bigger (hence the bigger container) the astilbe seems to be thriving and could almost use a larger home… we’ll see how things go though. Here are a couple pictures.

Our balcony faces North so we have a great deal of shade on our deck. One corner has shade containers while the other is filled with those that do well in the sun. So-far I have a Hosta in one container. It is small right now as I bought it this year but it has a beautiful green leaf with a light yellow/green trim. I was told to cut off the flowers when it bloomed as this would help it develop. So the pictures are the memory of the short lasting flower that bloomed this late July 2007.
